  • Abstract
The sag in an overhead transmission line is significantly influenced by the current in the line conductor. Using the deterministic method to determine the current carrying capacity of a conductor is too conservative. In recent times, however, some power utility companies have used a real-time monitoring approach. This is very costly and cannot be adopted by all. A new method, based on probabilistic techniques, is used to assess the sag in an overhead power line in this paper. Recorded data on some climatic factors and transmission line current are used in the authors´ analyses.
