Abstract
The sag in an overhead transmission line is significantly influenced by the current in the line conductor. Using the deterministic method to determine current carrying capacity of a conductor is too conservative. In recent times however, some power utility companies are using the real-time monitoring approach. This is very costly and cannot be adopted by all. A new method, based on probabilistic techniques, is used to assess the sag in an overhead line in this paper.
