Abstract :
It has been more than a decade since the proposal of Cognitive Radio paradigm. Recently, several researchers have started to work in the area of cognitive radio routing. In this paper, we discuss the routing challenges in mobile cognitive radio ad-hoc networks compared with conventional mobile ad-hoc wireless networks. We conclude that route connectivity in mobile cognitive radio ad-hoc networks depends on not only node mobility but also spectrum heterogeneity. Based on that knowledge, we propose a route Stability-based Spectrum-aware Routing Protocol (SSRP) in mobile cognitive radio ad-hoc networks. The main goals and features of our proposed SSRP are as follows: (i) to avoid interference to primary users during route formation and data transmission, (ii) to perform joint next-hop selection and best channel selection at each node, (iii) to improve route stability for better network performance, (iv) to provide mathematical model as routing metric, showing the effect of different operating frequencies of wireless links on network connectivity. The results obtained from intensive simulations show that our proposed routing provides efficient data transmission in mobile cognitive radio ad-hoc networks.
