Abstract
Decrease of the price per kWh and increase of the electricity production are key points in developing small wind turbines. To maximize the electricity output of the wind turbine system, this study directly coupled a permanent magnet generator having 1kW winding and 3kW winding with a vertical-axis windmill as a 4kW wind power system. Meanwhile, two saturated reactors are applied to optimize the rotor speed according to the balance of the powers between the windmill and the generator. In addition, a power control constrains the output of the system at rated power via one of the reactor. The simulation confirms that the power keeps at 4 kW during the wind speeds larger than rated value through the controllable reactor to adjust its inductance. The cost of the controllable saturated reactor is only half of the price of the electric devices.
