Abstract
Shielding-measures against the magnetic field of underground cables can lead to reductions of the current rating. This problem can be eliminated by laying the cables in a pipe, which is cooled by free or forced convection of the ambient air. This system allows heat recovery of the cable losses and thereby an essential improvement of the efficiency of the power transmission, combined with a low or even disappearing outer magnetic field.
