Abstract :
This paper describes a power system harmonic resonance case study using a PC (personal computer) based software package as the main analytical tool. The parameters of the network studied have been selected in such a way to cause the harmonic resonance point to coincide with the seventh harmonic generated by an ideal six-pulse power converter and, in this way, make the study meaningful and lead the investigation into a basic filter design, thus shifting the resonance point. The paper describes the methodology needed to be followed when performing such a case study and applies it, making it useful as a power system educational tool for understanding harmonic resonance in power factor-corrected plants.
