Abstract :
Efficient visualisation of mammographic image resources requires domain specific software tools. We deal with Web-based remote desktop access and domain specific visualisation of mammographic images existing in Web or PACS image servers. To provide such access, an existing stand-alone tool (see Sakellaropoulos, P. et al., Medical Informatics, vol.24, p.53-73, 1999; Medical Informatics, vol.25, p.171-81, 2000) was redesigned by exploring component technologies, enabling the integration of standalone mammographic image functionality in a Web browsing environment (Web integration). The software has been designed and implemented according to an object-oriented approach in Visual C++. Visualisation functionality offered relies mainly on wavelet-based image processing algorithms. Most of the algorithms are implemented in real time. Initial use of the tool with mammograms of various breast structures demonstrated its potential in improving visualisation of diagnostic mammographic features
