Abstract :
The concept of structural stability (SS) is introduced. A single machine infinite bus power system is analysed from the perspective of SS. Linear, nonlinear and time-dependent perturbations are applied to the system. The full phase space of the SMIB is represented and the SS is evaluated. The model is extended by introducing a load and the influence of the load model is studied. It is shown that the SS of a model provides some valuable information about the reliability of that model.
