Abstract
This paper deals with modifications to the current IEEE 802.11b distributed coordination function (DCF) protocol of the medium access control (MAC) to support service differentiation between premium and regular users. A volume-based revenue model has been integrated with our simulation tool to understand clearly the impact of different traffic classes and user types. This work has been carried out under a joint cooperation between the University of Siena and CUNY.
