Abstract
The traditional eliminating shadow methods are interfered and restricted by many factors of themselves. Only single information of shadow is used, which results into poor eliminating effect and unsuitability for multiple environments. Aiming to the difficulty, a new method of eliminating moving shadow is proposed in the paper. Firstly, a criterion used to decide whether invoking the algorithm of shadow elimination or not at this moment is given. The shadow is detected by evaluating the ratio between the area of vehicle and the area in the vehicle´s convex hull, and the algorithm of shadow elimination is invoked or not by evaluating the shadow regions on statistics. This criterion of the method can improve the whole system real time. Secondly, a new algorithm of shadow elimination that combines texture and chrominance properties of moving foreground regions is presented. In this algorithm, texture-map, luminance-map and chrominance-map of each moving foreground region are extracted respectively. An OR-map is constructed by the logical “OR” of the three maps. Finally, the morphological method is adopted for shadow elimination of the OR-map. The experimental results showed that the proposed method can quickly and effectively eliminate moving shadow.
