Abstract
The digital signal processing methodology known as wave digital filters (WD) transforms analog networks into topological equivalent digital filters. Such a feature makes WD a powerful technique for simulating power system transients. Every WD filter can be considered to be a digital model of a certain continuous-time filter or a network, called its reference filter or reference network. In many respects, both the reference filter and the WD filter behave similarly. For example, if the reference filter is passive or lossless, the corresponding WD filter will be passive or lossless, respectively. Although the concept of WD filtering was originally introduced to simulate linear circuits, it can be applied to nonlinear networks as well.
