Abstract :
This paper presents a UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) architecture definition that enables the communication between Personal Health Devices (PHD) and consumer electronic (CE) devices. The main contribution is the reference design, which allows PHDs with different connectivity interfaces to communicate with television sets and other UPnP enabled devices at home. The solution presented in this paper makes possible to current CE devices to communicate with new PHDs using a UPnP gateway without the need to make changes on the CE device. Also, we introduce a reference implementation based on open source software that makes possible an evaluation of the solution in a real home environment.
