  • Abstract
This paper deals with an efficient dynamic bandwidth allocation technique is presented based on traffic prediction. In particular, the self-similar traffic modeling is herein considered and the accuracy of several prediction techniques is taken into account. With the aim of improving the overall system performance a corrective factor is introduced applying it to predicted traffic level. This approach is then applied to a satellite IP network based on the DVB-RCS standard highlighting the noticeable advantages of the proposed allocation policy in terms of link delay both in the case of a single traffic class and in a multiclass environment based on the DiffServ model.
