Abstract :
A new type of expert system with a hierarchical structure for voltage and VAr control in electric power systems is proposed. With a high level expert coordinator, this expert system integrates a rule-based subsystem with a linear programming software package. The rule-based subsystem yields the control strategy by using a new heuristic one dimensional search algorithm in a discrete state space. The test results of applying this expert system to the IEEE 30-bus power system are satisfactory
