Abstract
Since the discovery of stable levitation in type II superconductors, the number of applications of superconducting magnetic bearings for contactless machinery and devices has increased significantly. These applications require that large single grains of different shapes are used. For the batch process of large single grains we have used the top-seeded melt growth (TSMG) method in air with commercial Nd123/MgO thin films as seed crystals. In this work we present a study of trapped field maps in different shapes of RE-Ba-Cu-O (RE = Y, Gd) single grains. We also investigated the influence of oxidation conditions on material behavior during its processing into desired shapes and trapped field.
