Abstract :
This paper presents a method for the selective compensation of harmonic and reactive currents of electric power systems. The compensation method is based on a simple and fast neural adaptive algorithm whose characteristics are fast dynamic response, stability and immunity to frequency deviations. The adaptive algorithm is used to determine the reference compensation currents of a shunt active power filter. The development presented is this paper is focused on three-phase four-wire applications. The presented scheme compensates harmonic, reactive and unbalanced load currents, providing sinusoidal and balanced currents for the electric source. Applications for three-wire systems where unbalanced currents are not present can be easily derived from the presented scheme.
