Abstract :
A new method of designing a speed controller for hydroelectric power stations is presented. It is named the two-step method which is simple to use, and few calculations are needed. In the application of this method, the first step is stability design, only a little information is needed to get stable controller parameters; the second step is performance design by means of a new practical model or the performance index-parameters model, one can make the best use of online information to get an optimal or an expected performance index. On the other hand, this model can also be used for a tracking time variant model because it is an increment model. Finally field test results on MDT-80s are given
