Abstract :
The study of the paper was performed in order to reduce the voltage level of the capacitor in the capacitor driven linear induction coil launcher. As can be seen from the lumped parameter circuit method, the numerical model of the capacitor driven linear induction launcher was built, in which pole-pairs connection models in series, parallel and series-parallel of the launcher transformation matrix were derived. Then the multistage launcher simulation code was programmed with MATLAB. The pole-pairs connection models in series and parallel of a two stages launcher model were simulated. The laboratory prototype of the two stages launcher was built. Experimental results are in good agreement with theoretical predictions. It can accelerate a 300 gram hollow conducting cylinder projectile to a muzzle velocity of 204 m/s. The voltage and capacitance on the capacitors of the launcher were held at 3 kV, 1500 μF per phase in the first section, and 5 kV, 720 μF per phase in the second section.
