Abstract :
This paper gives a consecutive description from non-coherent until Doppler polarimetric weather radars with sophisticated signal processing. The combination of Doppler and polarimetry in the radar technology enables comprehensive investigations of objects and phenomena in radar coverage. We demonstrate theoretically, by simulation, and by real data processing, that a lot of important parameters of dynamic characteristics and microstructure of meteorological objects can be retrieved from Doppler-polarimetric observations. Recognition of hydrometeor type of classes, dangerous meteorological objects, and estimation of the intensity of hazards is achievable with modern techniques.
