Abstract :
In this paper we derive a closed form spectral moment expression of the received signal in an arbitrary scattering environment. We show for the first time that the spectral moment expression provides analytical characterization for many realistic scattering distributions (e.g., uniform limited, Laplacian and cosine). This expression is then used to derive a novel mobile station velocity estimator. By comparing with two existing spectral moment based estimators; ZCR-based and ROM-based, we show that the new estimator is more robust to the effects of non-isotropic scattering, Ricean factor, additive white noise, mean scattering direction and LOS direction.
