Abstract :
This paper describes two possible implementations for a Cockcroft-Walton cascade rectifier connected in series with a sustaining current supply. The rectifier is used to initiate the electrical breakdown process in a flashlamp whereas the sustaining supply maintains the current during the post breakdown period. The analysis for a distributed parameter and lumped parameter implementation is presented. Finally, factors which influence the design of the rectifier circuit are summarized
