Abstract
After a brief introduction of existing MIMO systems, this paper attempts to define the basic properties of a MIMO - Multiple Inputs Multiple Outputs concept. Then the paper gives some directions to explore, in the fields of space time adaptive processing (STAP) for ground moving target detection and High Frequency Surface Waves Radar (HFSWR) for maritime surveillance. The last part of the paper deals with the choice of the codes. Fast time and slow time coding are considered. While orthogonal coding is desired in a MIMO system, the generalized ambiguity function is presenting as the unique tool to assess the efficiency of the codes.
