Abstract :
Presents a new type of flatbed plotter, which uses two linear DC motors to directly drive the bridge and the pen carriage respectively, without gear gaps and backlashes, thus raising the rigidity of transmission and the resonant frequency. Those factors which are imposed on the servo motor and seriously worsen the performance of the control system have been eliminated so that it is quite possible to improve the system performance. The new plotter also uses a microprocessor as the command interpreter and another as the line interpolator and the controller of the digital X, Y axial servo system. This implementation provides high hardware integration and flexibility. Theoretical analysis and experimental results show all the advantages the authors predicted. Some system design aspects and considerations are also discussed
