Abstract :
The authors outline some major types of inverting techniques employed in the machine drive currently available in the market and types of semiconductor switching devices employed in the inverter system. Factors affecting the operation of the drive system are examined in detail. Site measurements on the operating characteristics of an installed variable speed drive under steady state and transient state loading conditions for the air-handling unit of the HVAC system in a building are recorded with associated problems identified and analysed. Finally, a general guideline is set up for the application engineer to select the proper type of variable speed drive system
