Abstract :
Driven by liberalization, competition, technological advances and evolving market demand, many telecom carriers consider implementing distributed network architecture, with a common, packet-based transport layer for voice and data. NGN holds the promise of offering a range of new data and multimedia services, giving the carrier access to new revenues. In migration scenarios different aspects are considered. Two most important aspects are economic and regulatory problems. In economic aspects, telcos are forced to consider how to migrate consumers to a multimedia NGN whilst keeping a positive cash flow. Operators have to maximize the revenue from new services whilst minimizing the cannibalization of exiting revenues. This paper provides a summary of impact of migration toward next generation network (NGN). This paper assumes a definition for NGN based on ITU-T standards and examines the different existing scenarios for migration toward NGN considering economic aspects.
