Abstract :
This paper presents a comparative study of the PSO-technique and the Fuzzy based controller for the improvement of transient stability of Static Synchronous Series Compensator (SSSC). New and efficient configuration of adaptive SSSC controller based on the Fuzzy control is presented. Further, the performance of the Fuzzy based controller is compared with the PSO-technique results. Simulation results are presented and analyzed for the two controllers. The proposed technique is demonstrated by simulation studies on a single machine infinite bus system. It is observed that Fuzzy based controller give better response than the PSO-technique for the transient stability of SSSC controller. It is also observed that the proposed SSSC controller improves greatly the voltage profile of the system under severe disturbances.
