Abstract
This paper deals with problems related to construction and comparison of linear observers. It is demonstrated that one of the essential differences of observer schemes lies in the utilization of the degree of design freedom which can be parameterized and represented by a transfer function matrix. Based on this result, a design scheme for H∞-optimal Luenberger-type observers is developed. This scheme is based on the computationally simple Riccati equation approach and allows one to construct robust reduced order observers in H∞-optimal sense.
