  • Abstract
In traditional Chinese culture, failure or making a mistake would not be allowed and possibly incur blame or taunts. Students, therefore, are afraid of taking risks or challenges and lose a lot of good opportunities for learning. We have advanced a new learning model, called mission-based learning (MBL) model, to solve the problem. Particularly mission-based learning model is intended to help students for developing good attitude and ability to accomplish some critical tasks. Even though they know they may fail but by accepting task risk that students could learn how to be responsible, willing to take risk, and persistent in completing a task. We propound a theory of mission-based learning model. The theory we proposed would combine Keller´s ARCS model, Clifford´s constructive failure, Yerkes-Dodson Law, and job characteristics model.
