Abstract :
One of the most elusive problems encountered by operators of large turbogenerators is discriminating between DC grounds in the rotor from those occurring outside the machine. Existing techniques require removing the unit from operation to perform the search for the fault. The technique presented here allows the location of a DC ground-fault with the machine still online and fully loaded. This technique has been demonstrated by several years of field tests in a number of generators
