Abstract :
To unlock the full potential of evolution in digital media, we have developed a 2D artificial life system using network-type assembly language and investigated the evolvability of the developed system by computer experiments. In this paper, the structure and features of the developed system are addressed and especially the effects of drastic change of environment by introducing costs of instructions to the system are studied. The experimental results show that the network-type system keeps more stable diversity than the linear-type system. This indicates the possibility that the network-type system has more potential of evolution than the linear-type system.
