Abstract
The data distribution service for real-time systems specification exists to address the communication needs of distributed applications. Many different types of distributed applications can use the data distribution service (DDS) infrastructure as the backbone for their data communications. DDS is mandated for use by the DoD, and therefore a good understanding of its use is essential. This paper presents an overview of distributed applications, describes the DDS specification and its components, and discusses how DDS can help when designing distributed applications.
