Abstract :
Hazard and operability study (HAZOP) proves an effective tool for identifying the hazards and operability problems in modern chemical industries. In this paper, a new HAZOP methodology based on large scale simulation approach is proposed (Lsim-HAZOP), which can assist us to find the ultimate consequences and causes in complex chemical process, making a deeper exploration in the identification of process hazards. It can also be used to analyze and simulate weakness of the emergency operation procedures, implemented by human or safety instrumented systems (SIS), in the HAZOP review. A methanol and C5 separation process is utilized to indicate its effectiveness and flexibility.
