Abstract
With the development of smart grid future electric grids will operate in an environment where there are increasing renewables, demand responses, and energy storage. Latest information and communication technologies will be deployed in future smart grids to facilitate the transformation. Next generation control centers (NGCC) need enhanced and new monitoring, analysis, and control functions to help operators improve efficient, reliable, and low-carbon operation of the grid. This paper reviews the current status and future trends in the integration of renewable generation, demand responses, and storage systems, and recommend requirements for NGCC functions in response to the changes.
