Abstract
This paper presents an effective method based on the empirical mode decomposition (EMD) to extract driver´s breathing signal from an accelerometer installed on the safety belt. The method has been verified to have consistent results with commercial belt under various driving conditions, where the acceleration from car driving or road bumps has much higher signal power than the desired breathing signal from chest movement (i.e. negative signal to noise ratio).
