Abstract
Propagation and coupling characteristics of asymmetric coupled microstrip lines can be described in terms of C and PI modes. So far, this concept has been utilized only for metal strip-type coupling structures, because C and PI modes can only clearly be assigned by using quasi-static analysis. To extend this concept to coupled slot-type transmission lines (e.g. finlines) or mixed structures, including dielectric lines, the authors introduce fictitious electric and magnetic decoupling walls and calculate the decoupled circuit parameters. This allows the circuit designer to utilize fully equivalent network synthesis procedures for generalized coupled hybrid structures
