Abstract :
A head-actuator IC for high-performance 12-V hard-disk drives that features a rail-to-rail 2A Class AB H-bridge using four on-chip 0.25- Omega lateral DMOS power transistors is described. An error amplifier and a low-loss current-sense amplifier that does not use sense resistors are also integrated to configure the IC as a transconductance amplifier. The IC uses a junction-isolated, dual-layer-metal, single-poly process, containing bipolar, CMOS, and DMOS transistors. Typical specs of IC are listed. Performance is comparable to that of multi-chip solutions.<>
