Abstract :
A 3D electric field mathematical model of the arc-quenching chamber in an 800 kV 2-break extra high voltage SF6 circuit breaker (EHV SF6 CB) has been established and the finite element method (FEM) has been applied to calculate the electric field in the arc-quenching chamber. In computing, multi-dielectrics (such as: air, porcelain casing, PTFE nozzle, SF6 gas) have been taken into consideration. And the effect of the parallel capacitor and the shielding covers on the electric field distribution and insulation performance has been studied and analyzed based on the numerical simulation during the dynamic interruption course. Moreover, the electric field strength variations under movable arcing contact and stationary arcing contact in different operating instants are obtained. Consequently, the whole electric field distribution in the arc-quenching chamber with different opening strokes is computed and figured out dynamically.
