  • Abstract
Summary form only given. As Agile methods were introduced for managing software development process, leaner ways of working are becoming a practical approach to run entire enterprise. PayPal has recently transformed its large distributed engineering organization, from traditional waterfall development process to an Agile and leaner collaborative working style. Together with technology platform innovation, we have seen tremendous changes and improvements on ways that teams collaborate and coordinate, and impacts on time to market. A cross-functional reorganization, brought the actual physical locations closer for all relevant parties including Product, QA, Engineering, and UED, which dramatically reduced daily collaboration cost across different office locations and time zones. In this keynote, I will share our experience of Lean/Agile transformation, tools and technology platforms adopted to support leaner collaboration, and lessons learnt. Hope it would help provide some insights for further research work on improving collaborative work in software companies.
