Abstract
The conceptual optimal design of a 300 MJ high temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet using Bi2223/Ag tapes has been conducted. In order to reduce the stray field of the HTS magnet, a toroidal configuration was proposed. The proposed configuration was optimized by using an improved particle swarm optimization method under a lot of constraints such as the storage energy, the volume of the superconductor, the stray field and so on. After extensive studies, a toroidal coil composed of 16 solenoid coils was determined. Finally, FEM was used to validate the storage energy and the magnetic field of all the optimal configurations.
