Abstract :
A fully integrated, sampled-data, analog three-line (2H) Y/C (luminance/chrominance) separator for high-performance NTSC decoding is described. This function requires two 910-tap delay elements, implemented in fully differential, sequentially addressed, charge-based switched-capacitor analog RAM cells. Efforts to minimize cell size and complexity result in the use of a single-switch cell. The prototype Y/C separator, realized in 1.2- mu m CMOS, has an effective SNR of 51 dB and an active area of 11.7 mm/sup 2/, while dissipating less than 170 mW. In this prototype, less than 20% of the total area is consumed by storage capacitors, indicating that this approach will be competitive with scaled technologies.<>
