Abstract :
This paper presents a novel strategy to calculate the eddy current, loss and temperature fields of the end region of a 1000 MW turbine-generator. Discretization is needed only in the radial/axial plane. The magnetic-thermal coupled field under different operating modes is calculated by an integrated computing system, which is developed by using commercial software ANSYS being nested in Visual-Fortran. The numerical computed temperature is well coincident with the test result of a 1000 MW turbine-generator. The presented method provides a reliable base to predict the advancing capability of the generator.
