Abstract :
The 21st century war fighter will require continuous real-time interface with the total force. Communication links are the arteries of the digital battlefield of the 21st century. The wider the links, the more types of information that can be provided and the less chance of blockage. Current military communications are limited in bandwidth, antenna space, and ability to operate on the move, and are constrained by inadequate interoperability and susceptibility to line-of-sight obstructions. The proposed concept, as depicted, will exploit the current and emerging proven technologies such as the PCS (personal communications services), WATM (wireless asynchronous transfer mode), PAA (phased array antenna), UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle), GBS (global broadcast service), and sophisticated compression techniques to fulfil the communication objectives of the integrated digital battlefield
