Abstract :
Image processing is becoming an attractive option for a range of traffic management applications, where previously they would not have been considered on cost-benefit grounds. To date, applications of image processing have been mostly limited to freeway locations and urban areas where CCTV is already in place or is planned. With the advent of the first production samples of cameras `on a chip´, image processing could be on the threshold of a significant breakthrough in functional capability. The paper focuses on the development of a specific platform which is intended to address current traffic management applications
