Abstract :
The Assistant Secretary of Defense (ASD) memorandum pertaining to command, control, communications, and intelligence (C3I) tactical data link policy, dated, October 18, 1994, states: “...this policy designates the US agreed Link-16 data link as the DoD primary data link for all Service and Defense Agency Command and Control (C2) intelligence (I) and when practical, weapon system applications...”. Link-16 is synonymous with Tactical Digital Information Link (TADIL) J. TADIL J is primarily carried by the Joint Tactical Information Distribution System (JTIDS). The Ballistic Missile Defense Organization (BMDO) has established a TADIL J Range Extension (JRE) Demonstration Program with multi-service participation. The ability to provide enhanced automatic link connectivity for beyond the horizon must be supported by advanced range extension via satellite and/or airborne platforms. The JRE program´s bipolar thrust consist of developing candidate architectures for JRE based on individual service requirements, and demonstrating the feasibility and benefits of JRE to the war fighters
