Abstract :
ROMANSE is a three year £8.5 million pilot project based in Southampton and led by Hampshire County Council. It forms part of the DRIVE 2 project SCOPE which also embraces the cities of Cologne in Germany and Piraeus in Greece. The main objectives are to influence travel behaviour by the dissemination of accurate, timely traffic and travel information. As a result, it is hoped to increase demand for public transport, improve network efficiency as a whole and provide high quality data for immediate and long-term strategic decisions. These objectives will be achieved through the formation of a Traffic and Travel Information Centre (TTIC). This will collate, evaluate, coordinate, and disseminate real-time and forecast information on transport networks and service conditions for all modes of transport. In doing this, ROMANSE will influence a number of factors, including the decision as to whether to undertaken or abandon a trip, the mode of transport chosen, the time at which a trip is undertaken, the destination and the route taken
