Abstract :
Building on the finding that many travellers have difficulty in selecting the most efficient mode and route for a journey, interest has been shown in the development of advanced traveller information systems. Such systems could provide accurate and reliable information relating to the various options available for a journey, including public transport. This would enable the traveller to plan a journey on a fully informed basis. PROMISE is a development project within the EC DRIVE framework, that is addressing the provision of traveller information. The overall objective of the project is to develop and test a pan-European multi-modal traveller information system incorporating an open architecture and portable terminals. The PROMISE system will eventually provide a wide range of multi-modal traveller information services to the public
