Abstract :
A number of individual digital television research and development projects are well underway, at both national and international levels, and a major effort to co-ordinate these activities has been launched. This paper briefly touches on these projects, drawing from information provided at the Oct 1993 meetings of the ITU-Radiocommunications Sector in Geneva. It describes the collaborative European research and development, Standards activities, including those of the EBU, ETSI and the ITU-R Sector, the HDTV Action Plan and MPEG developments. It concludes with a brief summary of the European DVB Project to provide overall co-ordination
