Abstract :
Faulty insulators change voltage distribution and field distribution in the vicinity of insulator string, which will exacerbate corona discharge, and in extreme cases the amplify can exceed 100%. This paper introduces an UV detector, which detects defective insulators by measuring the UV-light from the discharging insulator. Some tests were carried out. The results indicate that this method can identify corona discharge with good performance.
