Abstract :
A compact multiband planar antenna has been developed for mobile wireless terminals. This planar antenna, fabricated on rigid or flexible dielectric substrates, is capable of the multiband operation that is required in mobile wireless terminals such as telephones and personal digital assistants (PDAs). Multi-band operation is obtained by perturbing the shape of a conventional microstrip patch antenna in a prescribed manner. This highly reliable, low cost antenna offers a low profile with no moving parts and is ideally suited for installation within the terminal with no need for external parts. This paper presents the design, FM analysis and a complete set of measurements for the compact multiband antenna.
