Abstract
This paper presents an advanced method for determining outages in a distribution network based on information derived from an AM/FM/GIS system. Fuzzy set theory is applied in modelling the possibility of protective device operation based on customer trouble calls, taking into account device location in the distribution network protection schema, and other factors such as adverse weather conditions or lightning strikes. The developed fuzzy set based outage determination procedure is implemented in an industrial grade, commercially available product. Testing against other conventional methods has proven this outage determination procedure to be consistently more accurate
